Fort Konstantin
Fort Konstantin is a place of great historical significance for Koblenz. Its history probably dates back to the Romans. There has been a monastery here since the 12th century at the latest, most recently used by Carthusian monks. They gave their name to Koblenz's largest district.
Under Napoleon, the buildings were used as a farm before Prussia built the present-day fort as part of the Koblenz and Ehrenbreitstein fortress.
Converted into a bunker during the Second World War and then a refuge for bombed-out families, the fort gradually fell into disrepair.
In 1993, it was rescued from its slumber by committed citizens. Since then, the PRO KONSTANTIN e.V. association has been committed to preserving, renovating and using the fort.
